Levofloxacin in the Therapy of Lung Bacterial Diseases: New Information on Pharmacokinetics of the Preparation in Heavy Smoking Patients
The aim of the investigation is to study levofloxacin pharmacokinetics in heavy smoking patients with pulmonary infiltrative tuberculosis.
Materials and Methods. Levofloxacin concentration has been defined in 14 patients with pulmonary infiltrative tuberculosis (10 heavy smokers and 4 non-smoking patients) using a liquid chromatography technique with a spectrophotometric detection using “Agilent 1100” (USA).
Results. An obvious effect of heavy smoking on levofloxacin pharmacokinetics towards its concentration decrease (1.4—1.7 times) and clearance increase has been revealed. The maximum permissible doses are recommended in treating heavy smoking patients.
