There have been analyzed the risk factors and basic mechanisms of chronic obstructive respiratory disease. On the basis of the data and findings of proper investigations, there has been suggested an original scientifically based definition of this pathology reflecting the main pathogenetic processes in bronchi, lung parenchyma, pulmonary vessels, as well as the functional disturbances and guiding clinical syndromes.
